I just reversed my front wheels and gained about 5" in track width. By swapping right to left I kept the directional tread the same. Any thoughts on extra stress on the axles due to a longer arm?

Thats only a couple of inches per side of additional offset so it should be fine. My guess is the life of the front wheel bearings may be shortened by a few percent worst case. ....

If it's a recommended procedure for the 2210, you should be fine, but the track width could make a difference when in 4wd. Make sure that the extended width is accomodated for in the differential ratings in 4wd. Not that familiar with all the specs on the 2210, but this would be worth checking out with your dealer. ....

I do not believe it is a good idea to do this. I too thought it would be nice to gain width, thus stability but the extra stress on those little bearings is not worth it, at least not if you run a loader. If you have no extra weight on the front it is probably ok.

The 2210 manual says you can reverse the wheels and thus the bar direction for loader work so it seems to be an approved change. ....

Careful...it also says to move the wheel to the other side of the machine. If you are reversing tread AND switching sides, the wheel will end up reverse tread, but back in the narrow pattern.

I see what you're saying.
When I managed a tire store we used to do a lot of work for the lowrider crowd. Those guys liked wheels with huge 8" negative offsets on their chevies, and they went through wheel bearings every 15k miles or so.
We are talking about a much smaller 2-2.5" negative offset on a tractor that is (hopefully) built quite a bit more rugged than your average chevy. Having rolled a tractor once, and knowing it's no fun, if it were my 2210 I would have no problem trading a few percent of bearing life for greater stability.
If the manual doesn't specifically address this issue you might ask your dealer for his opinions and maybe write JD as well. I can't see it being a problem, but YMMV. ....

In any event I will never do it to mine. Even though the extra stress may be minimal in the big picture, I want as little burden as possible on that little front X for the long run.
The extra stability is fairly marginal is any case since the front pivots, most of the stability comes from the rear, which should always be run at the widest feasible setting IMO. ....

I think a wider front track may push the front axle lead ratio a bit during turns while in 4wd. I haven't thought it through and it may not be important even if true. ....
